THE VISION – A NEW GARDEN VILLAGE

Government backing was given to pursue a locally-led Garden Village at Longcross in December 2016.

OUR VISION for Longcross is to create a vibrant new community based on Garden Village principles, which include:

  • Strong vision, leadership and community engagement in partnership with Runnymede Borough Council
  • Community ownership of land and long-term stewardship of assets. (SANGS and other community assets)
  • Mixed-tenure homes and housing types (including homes for Open Market sale, affordable housing and housing for private rent)
  • A wide range of local jobs both within the Garden Village and locally, all within easy commuting distance of the homes
  • Beautifully and imaginatively designed houses and apartments combining the best of town and country to create healthy communities, and including opportunities to grow food
  • Integrated transport systems including walking, cycling, buses and trains with a new on-site station and upgraded rail timetable
  • Development that enhances the natural environment, providing a comprehensive green infrastructure network and biodiversity gains

The proposal to develop at Longcross forms part of the Preferred Approach of the emerging Runnymede Borough Local Plan 2035. The Council’s recent Local Plan: Additional Sites and Options consultation

document proposes to allocate Longcross North and Longcross South (comprising virtually all of Longcross Garden Village) for approximately 1,700 homes, with associated community facilities and open space, including Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace. The Local Plan also proposes to remove the former DERA site from the

Green Belt.
